【口腔衛生學系】成立於2001年，是新創設的學系，也是全國第一個設立的【口腔衛生學系】。目前國內既無口腔衛生法規可以遵循，也沒有前例可供參考，所以課程設計原則係參考美國、日本等先進國家的「口腔衛生師」教育內容，加上北醫已訓練八屆的「牙科助理學分班」教學內容及經驗，另外配合目前台灣牙科醫療環境設計出的本課程。

School of Oral Hygiene (SOH), is founded in 2001.  The "Oral Medicine Faculty" in SOH is both newly established and the first of its kind in this nation.  SOH has combined the "Certified Dental Hygienists" training programs founded in first world countries such as U.S.A. and Japan, etc, and has also incorporated the 8 years experience of "Dental Assistant Credit Program" accumulated via Taipei Medical University (TMU) in its curriculum.   This combination will be the most suitable course to accommodate for the current oral health care environment in Taiwan.

        本學系成立的目的，希望借口腔衛生師的存在，可以提昇口腔衛生師的品質與專業素養，也間接促進牙醫醫療品質的提升。並促立法成立口腔衛生師的專業檢覆及認證，以確立口腔衛生師的地位及工作範圍。並可促進國人的口腔衛生教育。本系的課程標準，也可做為其他院校成立口腔衛生學系的參考。

SOH is established with the two expectations: to elevate the standard of professional performances within the oral hygienists field and to enhance the overall oral health care quality in Taiwan.   It also serves as the driving force to urge the legislation in approving for the first officially certified oral hygienists to be recognized in this nation with established professional status and job specification, in order to promote the awareness of oral hygiene education nationwide.   Furthermore, the prominent curricular standard will also be a great example for other colleges wanting to establish such oral hygiene faculty.
